CHAPTER 11
Review: End of Chapter 10
What problem faces
Robyn, Homer and Ellie, and how do they plan to deal with it?
Chapter 11
- There is an
extremely tense mood at the opening of this chapter. Obviously this is
partly because we know that Ellie and her friends are about to risk
their lives. However, the mood is also created by the writing
style. Look again at the sentences. How does Marsden build up
the tension? (Quote a few examples.)
- Ellie is frightened
that the bulldozer lights will attract the enemy’s attention. Why does
switch the lights on?
- What is "this big
heavy slothful thing" (p.142)?
- What mistake does
Ellie make as she stops to pick up Lee?
- Identify (and copy)
three metaphors used to describe the attack on the bulldozer
(p.143/144).
- What is an
advantage of Ellie’s poor driving (p.144)?
- How does Ellie deal
with the jeep she meets (p.144/145)?
- How does she deal
with the first truck that follows her (p.146)?
- How does Robyn deal
with the second truck that follows the bulldozer?
-
"There
was a cry of pain from the back of the BMW." (p. 148) Who cries out,
and why?
- Explain the route
the group take from Wirrawee to Ellie’s place.
- How do they hide
the BMW from the enemy?
- Make notes about
Chris Lang, using the following headings:
