TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN

John Marsden

Your Final Assignment

For this assignment you have a choice. You may do any one of the tasks listed below. Do not dive in carelessly:

Choose one of the following assignments:

  1. Write a review of the novel. This will be published on an Internet webpage for people interested in Young Adult fiction. Most of your readers will be teenagers who have not yet discovered the "Tomorrow" series, but some will be teachers or parents looking out for good books to buy.
  2. Write a film script for the bridge scene (or part of it) in Chapters 20-22. You have already written a film script, so look back at your notes and the teacher’s comments.
  3. Write two newspaper reports, both about the explosion at the bridge in Wirrawee. One report should be from an enemy newspaper (pretend it is written in English) and the other should be from an "underground" resistance newspaper. Naturally, the first will probably deny that the explosion was an attack whereas the second will celebrate the courage and skill of the Australian resistance fighters.
  4. Read the letter from Imogen Christie’s mother (pages 210-211) to Bertram Christie. Imagine that the "hermit" replied. Write his letter. (This is difficult, but try to capture the formal, 19th century style of Mrs Eakin’s letter.)
